How to get a replacement licence
Report it stolen (if stolen)
If your licence was stolen, report it to An Garda Síochána and get a crime reference number. You'll need this if there's any dispute about fraudulent use of your licence details.
Apply for a replacement
You can apply online at ndls.ie if your personal details haven't changed and you meet the eligibility criteria for online applications. Otherwise, attend an NDLS centre in person.
Pay €35
The replacement fee is €35. This is the same fee regardless of how many times you've lost your licence.
Receive your replacement
Your replacement licence card is posted to your registered address within 5–10 working days. You'll receive a receipt/confirmation at the point of application — keep this in case you're asked by Gardaí.
Can you drive while waiting for your replacement?
Technically, you should carry your licence when driving. However, if you've reported the loss and have a receipt or confirmation of your replacement application, Gardaí will generally accept this as evidence of a valid licence. Keep your application confirmation with you when driving.
