Step by step โ how to get your PPS number
-
1
Book an appointment at your local Intreo Centre
PPS numbers are issued by the Department of Social Protection at Intreo offices and Social Welfare offices. You must book an appointment โ you cannot walk in. Book online at mywelfare.ie or call your local office.
Bring the right documents to the appointmentSee the full document checklist โ what you need depends on whether you're an EU citizen, non-EU citizen, or have a specific immigration status. -
2
Complete the REG1 form before you go
The REG1 is the official PPS number application form. You can download and fill it in before your appointment to save time on the day. Take your time with it โ errors cause delays.

3
Attend your appointment with all documents
Bring your photo ID, proof of address, and proof of why you need a PPS number (called "evidence of need"). The officer will verify your identity and documents in person. This cannot be done by post for first-time applicants.
