What's a normal waiting time?

Processing times vary significantly by council. Some process HAP in 2–4 weeks. Others, particularly in Dublin, can take 2–3 months or longer during busy periods.

2–4 weeks

Normal in smaller counties. Application is moving through the system.

4–8 weeks

Common in busier councils. Worth a check-in call but not unusual.

8+ weeks

Time to follow up actively. Something may be missing or stuck.

Why applications get stuck

What to do if your application is delayed

Keep paying your rent while you wait HAP does not pay backdated rent. Keep paying your landlord as normal while the application is being processed. Once approved, HAP pays going forward from the approval date.
