PPS Number for Ukrainians in Ireland

The PPS number is the first thing you need after your IRP card. Without it you cannot be paid legally, open a main bank account, or access most services. For Ukrainians, the process is straightforward — but there are a few things to know.

What you need

Documents to bring to the Intreo office

  • Your IRP card (Stamp 4T)
  • Ukrainian passport (valid or expired)
  • Proof of address in Ireland — a letter from where you are staying is fine, even from a host family. A letter from IPAS accommodation also works.
  • A reason you need the PPS number — a job offer, letter from employer, or just a clear explanation that you are starting work or need it for services

The process

PPS numbers for children

Each child needs their own PPS number. Bring the child's birth certificate and your own IRP card. Children do not need to be present in most cases — ask at the Intreo office. Children born in Irish hospitals usually receive a PPS number automatically shortly after birth.

Common problems

No proof of address

If you are staying with a host family or in temporary accommodation, ask the host or accommodation manager for a letter on headed paper confirming your name and address. Most Intreo offices accept this. IPAS accommodation letters are also accepted.

Expired passport

An expired Ukrainian passport is accepted at Intreo for the PPS number application — the IRP card is the primary document.

Already had a PPS number from before

If you previously lived in Ireland and had a PPS number, it is still yours — PPS numbers never expire. Contact your local Intreo and they can look it up for you.
