Where to register

Registration for Temporary Protection is handled by two offices depending on where you are in Ireland:

Dublin — Burgh Quay Registration Office

Operated by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB). Located at 13–14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2. Appointments are required — book online at burghquayregistrationoffice.inis.gov.ie. Appointments are in very high demand — book as early as possible.

Outside Dublin — Local Garda Station

If you live outside Dublin, go to your local Garda station. Most stations process Temporary Protection registrations without an appointment — call ahead to confirm. You may be referred to a larger station nearby.

What to bring

Documents for registration

  • Ukrainian passport (valid or expired)
  • Any document showing you were in Ukraine before 24 February 2022
  • Proof of address in Ireland — a letter from where you are staying is fine, even from a host family
  • Birth certificates for any children you are registering
  • Two passport-size photos (some offices have a photo machine on site)
  • Registration fee: €300 per adult — paid on the day. Children under 18: free
The €300 feeThe registration fee is €300 per adult. This is waived for children under 18. If you genuinely cannot afford the fee, contact the Department of Social Protection or a local Intreo office before your appointment — there are emergency supports available.

What happens at the appointment

After registration — what to do next

Immediately after getting your IRP card

  • Apply for your PPS number at your local Intreo office — this unlocks everything else
  • Register with a GP (family doctor) to access healthcare
  • If you have children, enrol them in school — schools in Ireland are free and obliged to accept Ukrainian children
  • Apply for the Medical Card — you are automatically eligible
  • Open a bank account — your IRP card plus a PPS number is enough for most banks
