Rent Supplement — Documents You Need to Apply

A missing document is the most common reason Rent Supplement applications are delayed. Here's exactly what you — and your landlord — need to bring.

Two sets of documents neededYou need to provide your own supporting documents, and your landlord also needs to complete and sign a separate landlord declaration form. Missing either set will delay your application.

Your documents — what to bring

✅ Your checklist

Photo IDPassport, national identity card, or Irish driving licence. Original only — photocopies are not accepted.
PPS numberYou'll need your PPS number. If you don't have one yet, apply for it first before submitting your Rent Supplement application.
Proof of social welfare paymentA letter from the DSP confirming you are receiving Jobseeker's Allowance, One-Parent Family Payment, Disability Allowance, or another qualifying payment.
Proof of addressA utility bill, bank statement, or official letter dated within the last 3 months, showing your name and current Irish address.
Lease or tenancy agreementYour signed tenancy agreement showing the property address, your name, your landlord's name, and the monthly rent amount.
Evidence of 6 months' renting (if applicable)Rent receipts, bank statements showing rent payments, or previous tenancy agreements proving you have been renting for at least 6 months.
Means declaration / income detailsDetails of all household income — yours and any other adults in the household. This includes any part-time earnings, child benefit, or maintenance payments.
Completed SWA 1 formThe main Rent Supplement application form, fully completed and signed by you.

Your landlord's documents

🏠 Landlord checklist

Completed SWA 3C form (landlord declaration)Your landlord must complete and sign this form. It confirms the tenancy details, rent amount, and that they agree to the Rent Supplement arrangement.
RTB registration numberYour landlord must be registered with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB). They need to provide the RTB registration number for your tenancy.
Landlord's PPS numberRequired for the SWA 3C. Your landlord must provide their PPS number — applications cannot be processed without it.
Landlord won't cooperate?If your landlord refuses to complete the SWA 3C or provide their PPS number, your application cannot proceed. This is a legal requirement. Speak to your CWO who may be able to assist.

Special situations

🔵 If you have children in the household

Children's birth certificatesOriginal birth certificates for all dependent children in the household.
Child Benefit statementConfirmation from the DSP that you are receiving Child Benefit, if applicable.
Custody or maintenance orders (if relevant)Court orders relating to child custody or maintenance payments, if these affect your household income.
