Common identity issues and how to fix them
❌ Passport is expired
Fix: Renew your passport before reapplyingAn expired passport is not accepted as proof of identity. You must renew it through your country's embassy or consulate in Ireland before rebooking your PPS appointment. This can take several weeks — plan ahead.
❌ Photo doesn't match — significant appearance change
Fix: Get a new passport or bring supporting documentsIf your appearance has changed significantly, you may need to renew your passport. Alternatively, bring additional supporting identity documents (driving licence, work ID) to support your application.
❌ No passport — lost or left behind
Fix: Contact your embassy, or explain to the Intreo officeFor Ukrainians under Temporary Protection: Intreo offices have been instructed to accept alternative identity documents. Bring any Ukrainian identity document — national ID card, driver's licence, birth certificate — and explain your situation clearly. For others: contact your country's embassy in Ireland to get emergency travel documents or a new passport.
❌ Only a photocopy was brought
Fix: Bring the original documentPhotocopies are never accepted. You must bring the original passport or identity card. Book a new appointment and bring the original.
