Documents needed to apply for a child's PPS number
Child's birth certificateOriginal birth certificate โ not a photocopy. Irish registered birth or foreign birth certificate both accepted.
Parent or guardian's PPS numberYou must provide your own PPS number when applying on behalf of your child.
Your photo IDPassport or identity card of the parent or guardian making the application.
Proof of addressYour address proof (utility bill, bank statement) covering both you and the child at the same address.
Evidence of needA letter from the school, childcare provider, or a letter from the Department of Social Protection requesting the child's PPS for Child Benefit.
Children born in Ireland may already have a PPS numberChildren born in Irish hospitals are often assigned a PPS number automatically at birth. Check your child's birth registration paperwork or contact the Department of Social Protection before applying โ they may already have one.
