Typical processing times
Standard complete application
If all documents are included and your income is clearly within the limits, most applications are decided within 15 working days of receipt.
Complex or borderline applications
Applications near the income limit, with multiple income sources, or requiring discretionary consideration take longer — typically 4 to 6 weeks.
Missing documents or information requests
If the HSE writes to request more information, the clock resets from when you respond. Missing documents are the single biggest cause of delays.
If it's been more than 4 weeks

Check your post for any HSE letters
The HSE communicates by post. Check carefully — they may have written asking for additional documents and you may have missed the letter.
- 2
Call the HSE PCRS
Call 0818 22 44 78 (Monday–Friday). Have your PPS number and the date you applied ready. Ask for a status update on your application.
- 3
Contact your local TD if still no progress
If weeks pass with no update, contact a local TD. This is a common and effective route — TDs can make official enquiries that often unstick delayed applications.
