PSC Documents โ€” What to Bring to SAFE Registration

The documents you need depend on your nationality and whether you are an Irish citizen, EU/EEA national, or non-EU national. Bringing the wrong documents means a wasted trip. Here is the complete checklist.

For Irish citizens

One of the following as primary identity

  • Current Irish passport
  • Irish passport card
  • Irish driving licence (full or learner)

Plus proof of address

  • Utility bill, bank statement, or official letter dated within 3 months
  • Must show your current address in Ireland

If you do not have a passport or driving licence, a combination of secondary documents may be accepted โ€” call your Intreo centre to confirm before attending.

For EU / EEA citizens

Primary identity document

  • Current passport from your home country
  • National identity card issued by an EU/EEA member state (must be current)

Proof of address in Ireland

  • Utility bill, bank statement, or official letter
  • Must be dated within 3 months and show your Irish address

PPS number

  • Your PPS number document or letter from Revenue/DSP confirming it

For non-EU citizens

Primary identity document

  • Current passport from your home country

Immigration permission

  • Current IRP card showing your stamp type
  • Or other current immigration permission document

Proof of address in Ireland

  • Utility bill, bank statement, lease agreement, or official letter
  • Must show your current Irish address, dated within 3 months

PPS number

  • Your PPS number document or Revenue letter confirming it
Expired IRP = appointment wastedIf your IRP card is expired, your SAFE appointment will be refused. Renew your IRP before booking a PSC appointment.

For Ukrainian nationals under Temporary Protection

Ukrainian nationals under Temporary Protection do not need an IRP card for the PSC appointment. Your Temporary Protection confirmation letter from the Department of Justice serves as immigration permission. Bring your Ukrainian passport (or other identity document if your passport is unavailable) plus the Temporary Protection letter and proof of your Irish address.

What if you do not have all the documents?

Call your local Intreo centre before attending. In some circumstances โ€” particularly for recent arrivals or people with housing instability โ€” alternatives may be accepted. Do not assume a refusal without checking first. DSP officers have some discretion in exceptional cases.
