Jobseeker's Allowance (JA) is paid by the Department of Social Protection through Intreo centres. It is different from Jobseeker's Benefit โ€” it does not require a PRSI history and has no time limit. What it does require is a means test, where your income, savings, and household circumstances are assessed to determine how much you receive.

To claim, you attend your local Intreo centre in person. You sign on regularly to confirm you are still unemployed and seeking work. If your circumstances change โ€” you start working, your savings increase โ€” you must declare this and your payment may be adjusted.
