When to start the renewal process
Start at least 4โ6 weeks before your IRP expiry date. In Dublin, appointment slots fill up quickly โ book as soon as the renewal window opens. Outside Dublin, contact your Garda station early.
Renewal step by step

Book your appointment
Dublin: inisonline.jahs.ie. Outside Dublin: your local Garda station. Book as early as possible.

Gather your documents
Current IRP (even if expired), valid passport, proof of address, and evidence your permission continues โ employer letter, updated contract, or college enrollment.

Attend and pay
Renewal fee is โฌ300 for most categories. The officer checks your documents and processes the renewal.
- 4
Receive your new card
Dublin: usually issued on the day. Outside Dublin: posted within a few weeks.
If your circumstances changed
If your job, study situation, or family status changed since your last registration, your renewal may result in a different stamp type. Bring full documentation of your current situation. If unsure, check with INIS or an immigration adviser before attending.
