Report it first
Go to your local Garda station and report the loss or theft. Get a Garda report or crime reference number — you will need this at the replacement appointment. If stolen, a report is especially important as the card contains biometric data.
Getting a replacement
- 1
Garda report
Visit your local Garda station. Report the loss or theft and get a reference number or written report.
- 2
Book replacement appointment
Dublin: inisonline.jahs.ie (select replacement option). Outside Dublin: local Garda station.
- 3
Attend with documents
Bring: valid passport, Garda report, proof of address, and the replacement fee (€300).
- 4
Receive replacement
New IRP issued with same stamp type and new expiry. Your immigration permission is unaffected by the loss of the physical card.
While waiting for the replacement
A letter from the GNIB confirming your registration can be used as temporary evidence of status. Contact the GNIB or your local Garda station to request one while the replacement is being processed.
