What to do first
If your PSC is lost, report it to the DSP as soon as possible. While the PSC does not give direct access to your finances, it does contain your biometric data on the chip and can be used as photo ID. Reporting it means it can be flagged as invalid if someone tries to use it fraudulently.
How to get a replacement
- 1
Contact the PSC helpline
Call the DSP PSC helpline or contact your local Intreo office to report the card lost or stolen and request a replacement. The number is 1890 800 024.
- 2
Confirm your identity
You will need to confirm your PPS number and some identity details. You do not need to repeat full SAFE registration — your biometric data is already on file.
- 3
Replacement card posted
A replacement PSC is posted to your registered address within a few weeks. If your address has changed, update this with DSP first.
If your card was stolen
If you believe your card was stolen rather than simply lost, report it to the Gardaí as well. Get a crime reference number from the Gardaí — this can be useful if the card is misused for identity fraud.
